Meridia for sale, Around the city of Lublin Poland, on empty buildings as well as inhabited ones, in the alleys of the old city and on streets of the newer parts, I posted photos of different kinds of Jew people who lived on these streets in these houses of the center of Lublin in between in the nineteen twenties till 1941.
In a modest gesture, I return the people in the photos to the place they were taken.
The photos show all kind of Jews. Young, old, modern, religious, political activist, Bundist, buy generic meridia, Zionist, nihilists, bourgeois, Hasidic, yeshiva student, communist, who knows. In some photos the identity is clearly visible, Missouri MO Mo., while in others it's not so clear.
Near the photos appear different questions in polish:
Czy zawsze czu?e, meridia for sale. si. inny od swoich przyjació?. / Have you always felt different from your friends.
Czy w twojej rodzinie jest wielka tajemnica. Meridia for sale, / Does your family hide a great mystery/secret.
Czy twoja babcia mamrocze w obcym j?zyku przez sen? / Does your grandmother mumble in her sleep in a foreign tongue.
Jakim ?ydem jeste?? What kind of Jew are you?

  3. hey ronen,
it is very moving to see this project you did.
how you allow the people to see the layers beyond the place they know.
you explore the flesh behind these building and it is still very red and raw.
    thank you!

Would be nice to meet you if you’re in Berlin this summer.

  7. So beautiful and very moving. Thank you.

  9. I gather that in the end the ”locals” torn all the photos off to destroy them which doesn’t surprise me. They still could care less as much now as they did back then. Too bad, I do not think they got the message now pretty much as the same as back then. Don’t forget they practically gave us Jews away to the nazi’s, take them all was their philosphy. They do not want to be reminded because they simply do not care.

  10. I was particularly moved by the pictures of mothers with thier children– I am also a mother, so this is probably why. I was sickened that people started to tear these down, but was this an attact on the Jews or on all artwork in general because vandals just do this?

Surreal experience– as I was looking at this, I was listening to Gogo Grant singing, “Wrap your Troubles in Dreams.” If only it were so easy for your subjects.

  11. Having been to St. Pete in Fl to the Holocaust Museum, and now viewing this wonderful display that is gone, does anyone have a deep sense of loss of life from that horrible time in man’s history here on this earth? Think of looking into those eyes, trying to see that the victims lost their lives in such an inhuman way, what if that was your mother, wife, daughter, brother, father, son? What if that were you. This thing happened, it was real and need not be forgotten. I will never forget….These pictures show people with love, feelings, emotions, compassion….thank you for the display, too bad it could not be permanent…wonderful job…:-)

  12. when I see these or holocaust photos my heart breaks.

  13. Thank God that there are such sensitive artists who can bring back an era gone forever. Each person lives
and then in a moment, is gone from our sight. But we must never forget nor let the world forget. Congratulations to the artist.

  14. Beautiful!! Thank you.

  15. Dear Ronen, Your art and the thoughts and efforts behind each and every portrait is to me so precious that my heart actually felt joy at seeing our people coming alive once again, if only for a moment in our time.
Somehow can you tour with this project as it should be seen by everyone who needs to be in touch with our people and stay united. You are a wonderfully talented artist and beyond that a sensitive human being. Toronto.

  16. THE PICTURES ARE AMAZING THEY MAKE ME MORE PROUD OF BEING A JEW. BUT, THERE IS STILL ANTI-SEMITISM IN TODAYS WORLD REGARDLESS OF THE TRAGIC HISTORY WE HAVE.

  17. Thinking this through, of course the pictures were taken down. But the images are still there in the minds of each person who viewed them and now, when the empty wall is seen, the photo, as well as the person in the photo, are both gone. I can see that for some, this way the photos will live forever as ghosts that the viewer was not aware of before viewing this amazing work of art. I am sure the exhibit was meant to be interactive, not two dimensional. Very moving.

  18. wow. This was intense. My father was the only survivor of his family – from a town about 20 or 30 min. from Lublin. His family pronounced their last name Eidelman – like you. The merging of my family’s name & the pix and that particular town. Some of these folks were contemporaries of my dad & may have known him or his family. VERY surreal. Awesome.
